IBBY Sverige är starkt oroad över den eskalerande situationen i Gaza och fördömer Israels krigsbrott. Som en organisation som arbetar för barns rätt till litteratur, utbildning och trygghet försvarar vi varje barns rätt att växa upp i fred och frihet.

IBBY Sweden is deeply concerned about the escalating situation in Gaza and strongly condemns violations of international humanitarian law committed by Israel. As an organization committed to every child’s right to literature, education, and safety, we affirm the fundamental right of all children to grow up in peace and freedom.

Insamling till stöd för biblioteksverksamhet i Palestina
IBBY Sverige startar nu en insamling till stöd för biblioteksverksamheten i Palestina. På samma sätt som Ukraina-insamlingen kommer de insamlade medlen att oavkortat gå till mottagarna i Palestina. Avsikten är att pengarna ska delas mellan IBBY Palestina och Tamer-institutet. Vi hoppas kunna framställa material i form av affischer och foldrar inom kort.

Starving by Hani Al-Salmi
Oh kind soil,
I had a bizarre neighbor,
Fills his pockets with dozens of coins,
And wanders in the neighborhood like a wiseman from wasted time.
Children were running to him
Claiming that their daily allowance drowned in the soil.
So he kneels, laughs,
Tickles the soil with his fingers and says:
“Oh soil, oh kind soil
return the allowance of the good boy”
And the soil was obedient
Or that’s what we believed.
The war’s drums chimed.
Children turned into angels
All of them.
And the man vanished
He didn’t release grief or shed a tear.
The coins in his pockets kept rusting,
As our adults’ promises,
As our shattered toys,
As our tongues froze suddenly.
And today,
A breeze dances above the soil,
It asks:
“Where are the children?”
And no one answers
I write the story while starving
Oh world, I am starving

“Every time I see this circle of children, one question comes to mind: What makes a child applaud with such enthusiasm? Is it the songs that reach where words cannot? Or perhaps it’s the music —or the cheering?
My friend Karam is always cheering, and the children respond, their voices echoing his like a joyful refrain. I can’t help but wonder: Does the world hear these echoes, or do they simply fade into dust with time?
And the more the circle grows, the more I find myself hoping that a child’s joy grows with it —and quietly wishing that I might be the reason for that joy.”
